about nancy
Nancy Covarrubias Martin, is a first generation Mexican American artist born in Los Angeles and raised in Moreno Valley, CA from 1989-2002. A graduate of FIDM with an AA in Interior Design, graduating class of 2001. After working in the Interior Design Industry for ten years Nancy began working more prominently as an artist in 2009. She has been living and working from her studio in Menifee, CA, since 2012. Nancy works with primarily in acrylic paint and digital illustration. This year she has begun combing her Interior Design education and experience with muraling. Her art reflects themes of nature, motherhood, spirituality, her Mexican culture, genealogy and ancestry, identity, introspection and transformation.
Nancy’s artistic goals revolve around advocating for a matriarchal society, communal living, and providing support for mothers and children. She believes in using the creative process and public art to foster positive connections between people, building women in business, viewing youth as the future, and building more connected communities through the arts. Additionally, she sees art as a tool for mental health and self-discovery and strongly advocates for more access to the arts in schools and communities.
As an emerging muralist, Nancy recently begun her first large scale mural in the city of Moreno Valley at March Middle School, in the Student Wellness Center. In 2025 Nancy also collaborated with the city of Perris to create a digital illustration for a utility box design, which is now available for public viewing at 11 S. D Street in front of the Perris Chamber of Commerce, in the city of Perris, CA.
